On October 7, Hagay’s life changed forever. A proud member of the Egoz Special Unit, Hagay was critically wounded while defending Kibbutz Be’eri during the Hamas terrorist attack. Shot multiple time, including in the neck, he was airlifted to the hospital, where he woke up unable to speak or move his right arm.
“I went to sleep on October 6 as one of the strongest guys in the world. By the morning of the 7th, everything was different.”
What followed was a long and painful journey of physical, emotional, and mental rehabilitation; a battle of courage and resilience that continues to this day. During his recovery, Hagay discovered Beit Halochem, a place that would become a turning point in his healing, where he found not only treatment, but also purpose, belonging and hope.
“Friends told me about Beit Halochem. I came for a visit and fell in love with the place. First of all, it’s a home. There’s a warm, embracing atmosphere. When you can talk to someone who has gone through something similar, it changes everything.”
At Beit Halochem, Hagay found a community that understood his pain and shared his determination to move forward. Step by step, he began to rebuild his strength, body, mind, and spirit.
Through Beit Halochem, heroes like Hagay receive the lifelong care, therapy, and community support they need to rebuild their lives, not just for a few months, but for a lifetime.
