Privacy Policy – ZDVO Beit Halochem Australia (ZDVO BHA)

Zahal Disabled Veterans Organisation (NSW) Incorporated (ABN:47351932233)

The purpose of the ZDVO BHA Privacy Policy is to tell you what kind of information we may gather about you, how we may use that information, and whether we will disclose it to anyone else. It also explains how we store the information you provide to us, how you may access or correct it, and how you can contact us. This document will be available on our website and will be provided free of charge to anyone who requests it.

How we collect personal information

ZDVO BHA will only collect information by lawful and fair means, and not in an unreasonable or intrusive way. ZDVO BHA collects personal information, but not sensitive information, from a variety of sources including:

  • directly from donors;
  • volunteers who act as collectors or hosts;
  • synagogues and communal organisations;
  • publicly available information.

Where it is lawful and practicable to do so, ZDVO BHA will offer you the option of interacting with us anonymously or by using a pseudonym. It may be impracticable for ZDVO BHA to interact with you if you choose not to provide certain personal information.

What type of information we may collect and hold

The personal information we may collect and hold includes:

  • contact details – name, address, email address, phone number, mobile phone number;
  • milestones and occasions such as birthdays, Bar/Bat-mitzvahs, weddings;
  • certain details about affiliations such as:
    • family, community and business linkages;
    • donation and function attendance history;
  • credit card details;
  • instructions received from the donor.

When we collect your personal information from you we expect you will only provide information that is accurate, complete and up to date.

Why we collect personal information

ZDVO BHA only collects personal information for the primary purpose of fundraising. Failure to collect this information will prevent ZDVO BHA from undertaking its primary role of awareness raising and fundraising in Australia for the rehabilitation of Israel’s 50,000 injured soldiers and victims of terror.  ZDVO BHA approaches members of the community to donate to its annual appeal and, at other times, for support in relation to specific appeals and projects.

Certain levels of donations to ZDVO BHA may be acknowledged at Beit Halochem centres in Israel and/or in publications either in Israel and/or Australia. Should a donor not wish this practice to be applied, ZDVO BHA will act in accordance with the donor’s wishes.

In addition to any stated purposes given when we collect personal information, the personal information you provide may be used:

  • in any fundraising activities including annual appeals, specific appeals and projects;
  • to carry out instructions received from the donor;
  • to process your donation and issue receipts;
  • to inform you of events, products and services we believe may be of interest to you;
  • to respond to your queries, feedback or complaints,

and for any other related purposes.

Opting Out

By providing us with personal information you consent to us using and disclosing that information for our fundraising activities. If you do not want us to communicate with you about activities other than the one(s) you have directly engaged in, please contact the Executive Director whose contact details are at the end of this Privacy Policy.  Donors are also given an opportunity to “opt out” of future mail-outs and appeals by marking “unsubscribe” on ZDVO BHA emails that are circulated periodically.

If a donor elects to be removed from the database, such details will be removed immediately except where those details may be required for verification purposes by the Australian Taxation Office, in which case the record will be maintained in a secure area for a period of 5 years from the date of the last receipt issued and will thereafter be removed.

How we protect your information

Information is used internally by ZDVO BHA and may only be accessed by authorised professional staff and/or authorised volunteers. Authorised volunteers are those who are specifically authorised by the President and the Executive Director and/or senior professional executive in each State. Authorised volunteers may include committee members and volunteers at functions.

ZDVO BHA may use a mailing house or consultants to process its mail-outs provided an appropriate agreement to respect the confidentiality, privacy and integrity of the information is in place.

The ZDVO BHA website incorporates an online transaction facility where credit card details are stored on a secure server. Transaction details are only used for reporting purposes and for updating personal details.  Data stored on ZDVO BHA computers is password protected and accessed on a need to know basis.

How you can access your personal information

If an individual makes a written request for access to information, ZDVO BHA will allow the person to inspect their personal records and take notes, or may make a hard copy available. Such requests will be responded to within 14 days. ZDVO BHA will remedy any errors in personal information providing such requests for corrections are provided in writing. Proof of identity is required.

Complaints about privacy

If an individual believes there has been a breach of privacy he/she should contact the Executive Director. A written confirmation of the complaint may be requested. Every endeavour will be made to deal with complaints within 21 days.  Proof of identity is required.
